Today as I sit back and relax, I think of the days that have gone by so fast that I didn't even notice them. Sometimes, I felt, one needed to slow down and look around. When everything seems to be happening like clockwork you do not notice how time flies. In the same vein, when you are eagerly anticipating something, the days seem to crawl! Time is the same – then why do we feel differently?
For us, life is a series of linear steps. We live each moment at a time. When that moment passes us by, there is no turning back. All throughout our life, we seek peace, the serenity and contentment. We feel that if we cross a sea of challenges to reach up to the horizon, our life's mission will be accomplished. What we fail to realize is that when we accomplish one goal, our horizons broaden. We see and crave for new things, new horizons. We move on and so does life...
And even when we have moments of idleness, our minds are disgruntled. Jerome K. Jerome, a great humorist has aptly said: “It is impossible to enjoy idling thoroughly unless one has plenty of work to do.” So bottom-line is – we are born to be discontent. But it is this very discontent that drives us to pursue excellence and seek new horizons. If we are complacent with what we have, we can never hope to fulfil our dreams and ambitions. Salvador Dali says, “Intelligence without ambition is like a bird without wings”.
In short, life, along with its unpredictability is beautiful. We have one lifetime to make the most of it. C’est la vie – Such is life!
Just to lighten up the mood, I would like to share a tongue in cheek poem written by an anonymous poet:
Man is a fool
As a rule, man is a fool,
When it's hot, he wants it cool;
When it's cool, he wants it hot,
Always wanting what is not.
